Brief summary of my education and experience.

Education

Master of Arts in Special Education from the University of Northern Colorado.

Three years of post-Master's training at the University of Kentucky in special education  focusing on applied behavior analysis and language interventions for individuals with disabilities.

Professional Experience

I have spent sixteen years providing support to individuals with problem behavior. My professional experience includes:

  • Serving as an in-house behavior consultant for an organization that serves adults with developmental disabilities.
  • Serving as a behavior consultant to schools, departments of social services, early childhood programs, nonprofits, and other organizations.
  • Training professionals (e.g., social welfare professionals) how to teach parents effective discipline techniques.
  • Serving as a behavior consultant to parents.
  • Training parents in effective discipline techniques.
  • Serving as a regular education and special education teacher to students with and without disabilities. Students that I have taught include students with:
    • behavior disorders;
    • developmental disabilities, including autism;
    • multiple disabilities;
    • AD/HD; and
    • learning disabilities.
  • Providing staff development to schools, departments of social services, and other organizations.
  • Training pre-service special education teachers who were preparing to teach students with disabilities.
  • Designing and implementing a school-based educational program for high school students with behavior disorders.
  • Participating in the development and design of a residential program for sex offenders; and providing ongoing consultation for the program.

Personal Experience

My wife and I are the adoptive parents of four sons, all of whom have identified disabilities.
